INFORM3 is working with a well-established and growing infrastructure and utilities contractor that is looking to appoint a Business Development Executive to support continued expansion across the civils, utilities and wider infrastructure markets.

The company provides a broad range of civil engineering and utility-led services, working closely with developers, main contractors, local authorities, utility providers, consultants and infrastructure clients across projects from early planning and development through to construction and completion.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused and proactive individual to play a key role in growing the customer base, identifying new opportunities and developing long-term client relationships. The role will cover a diverse range of markets, including civil engineering, utility infrastructure, power, telecoms, EV infrastructure, street works and multi-utility projects.

Business Development Manager Key Responsibilities

  • Identify potential customers, projects and commercial opportunities across the civils, utilities and infrastructure markets.
  • Develop and maintain a structured pipeline of new business opportunities in line with company growth plans.
  • Establish and develop relationships with developers, principal contractors, local authorities, utilities, consultants and other infrastructure clients.
  • Manage opportunities from initial contact and qualification through to proposal, negotiation and securing the work.
  • Engage with customers to understand upcoming requirements, project scope, delivery programmes, access constraints and commercial objectives.
  • Research target markets and identify upcoming projects, frameworks and potential routes to market.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date CRM records, including opportunity values, pipeline stages, key contacts, actions and expected timescales.
  • Develop and maintain key customer accounts, identifying opportunities for repeat work and increased spend.
  • Work closely with estimating, commercial, engineering, procurement and delivery teams to develop suitable proposals and tender submissions.
  • Assist with the assessment of new opportunities, considering commercial value, strategic fit, project risks and delivery requirements.
  • Contribute to the preparation of customer presentations, capability documents, proposals and tender information.
  • Support commercial discussions and negotiations with prospective and existing customers.
  • Ensure successful opportunities are effectively transferred to the estimating and delivery teams once secured.
  • Maintain regular communication with customers and prospects to stay informed of future requirements and project pipelines.
  • Develop relationships across the wider supply chain to identify partnership, subcontracting and framework opportunities.

Business Development Manager Specification

  • Previous experience in business development, sales, account management or a commercial role within construction, civils, utilities, infrastructure or a related sector.
  • Good knowledge of the UK civils and utilities market, with an understanding of how project-based construction and infrastructure work is procured.
  • Demonstrable experience of generating new business and developing long-term customer relationships.
  • Commercially minded with an ability to understand project value, margins, risk, programme and customer requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with customers and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working alongside estimating, commercial, engineering, project management and operational teams.
  • Ability to manage a number of opportunities simultaneously while maintaining accurate records and follow-up.
  • Strong organisational skills with a proactive and self-motivated approach.
  • Confident using CRM systems, Microsoft Office and standard sales/business development platforms.
  • Able to understand customer needs and translate them into commercially viable opportunities for the business.
