Junior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Belfast
Salary: £27 - 30k
We are looking for a motivated Junior Mechanical Engineer to join a growing mechanical team and develop a long-term career within the building services industry.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their engineering career who wants to gain hands-on experience delivering mechanical building services projects. They are open to candidates from either an engineering degree/HNC/HND background or a mechanical trade background, such as plumbing, pipefitting, heating or HVAC.
You will work alongside experienced Engineers, Project Managers, Contracts Managers and site teams, gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle from design and coordination through procurement, installation, commissioning and handover. The role would suit someone who is technically minded, practical, keen to learn and interested in progressing into a Mechanical Engineer, Project Engineer or Mechanical Contracts Management position.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with the planning, coordination and delivery of mechanical services on live projects.
- Reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications and technical information.
- Supporting the coordination of mechanical services including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and associated pipework systems.
- Working closely with site supervisors, tradespeople, subcontractors, suppliers and other members of the project team.
- Assisting with material take-offs, equipment schedules and procurement requirements.
- Helping to ensure materials and equipment are ordered and available in line with the project programme.
- Attending site meetings and project coordination meetings alongside senior members of the team.
- Monitoring installation progress and helping identify technical or programme issues.
- Supporting the preparation of RFIs, technical submittals and project documentation.
- Assisting with coordination between mechanical, electrical and other building services.
- Developing an understanding of mechanical design requirements and how designs are translated into practical installations.
- Gaining experience in BIM and digital coordination processes.
- Supporting testing, commissioning and project handover activities.
- Ensuring work is delivered in accordance with project specifications, quality requirements and health & safety standards.
- Building strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.
Requirements
Our client is looking for candidates who are enthusiastic about developing a career in mechanical building services.
Graduate / Technical Route
You may have recently completed, or be completing, a qualification such as:
- Mechanical Engineering degree
- Building Services Engineering degree
- HNC/HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
- Similar relevant engineering qualification
Trade Route
Alternatively, you may have practical experience or an apprenticeship in an area such as:
- Plumbing
- Pipefitting
- Heating
- HVAC
- Mechanical building services
You may currently be working on the tools and looking for an opportunity to move towards an engineering, coordination or project management career. Previous building services experience is beneficial but not essential. For the right person, training and support will be provided.
