Mechanical Project Engineer

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 5 years’ industry experience to join an established mechanical and electrical contracting business.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to take greater responsibility for the coordination and delivery of mechanical services on technically challenging projects across sectors including Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Commercial, Industrial and Life Sciences.
The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, site teams, consultants, subcontractors and clients to ensure mechanical installations are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required technical and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage mechanical services throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, design information and contract documentation.
- Coordinate HVAC, heating, chilled water, ventilation, plumbing, plant and associated mechanical systems.
- Manage technical submittals, RFIs, equipment schedules and procurement information.
- Liaise with consultants, clients, subcontractors, suppliers and other members of the project team.
- Coordinate mechanical services with electrical, structural, architectural and other building services.
- Support procurement of mechanical plant, equipment and materials.
- Monitor installation works and ensure compliance with drawings, specifications and relevant standards.
- Carry out site inspections and quality checks.
- Assist with project planning, programme management and progress reporting.
- Identify technical or programme issues and work with the project team to develop practical solutions.
Experience & Qualifications
- A Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience within the mechanical, MEP or building services industry.
- Previous experience working with a mechanical contractor, M&E contractor or building services consultancy.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building services and HVAC systems.
- Experience coordinating mechanical installations on construction projects.
- Good understanding of mechanical drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience working with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and client representatives.
- Strong organisational and project coordination skills.
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of project programmes and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD, Revit/BIM or similar packages would be advantageous.
