A forward-thinking company in the manufacturing sector is looking to hire a Purchasing & Sustainability Manager to join the team. This role offers a unique opportunity for a strategic, sustainability-driven professional to lead purchasing initiatives, manage vendor relationships, and drive impactful sustainability projects both internally and with suppliers.

 

Role Overview:
The Purchasing & Sustainability Manager will be responsible for developing and executing purchasing strategies, tracking key metrics to optimize expenses, negotiating supplier agreements, and managing vendor relationships. Additionally, this role will lead sustainability initiatives across the organization and with external partners, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and contributing to the company's sustainability goals.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, lead, and implement effective purchasing strategies to meet organizational goals.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to reduce expenses, improve operational efficiency, and mitigate risks.
  • Craft negotiation strategies and secure deals with suppliers, ensuring favourable terms for both raw materials and finished products.
  • Forecast key prices and market trends, identifying shifts in buyer-supplier power dynamics.
  • Conduct cost and scenario analysis, benchmarking against industry standards.
  • Source and establish partnerships with reliable vendors and suppliers.
  • Monitor and forecast demand levels to ensure supply chain efficiency.
  • Coordinate the company's involvement in the Origin Green sustainability program.
  • Stay informed on current Irish and EU packaging legislation to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with packaging suppliers to advance sustainability efforts.
  • Maintain the Valpak portal and ensure accurate submissions.
  • Lead biannual submissions to Repak, ensuring all data is accurate and timely.
  • Lead, inspire, and manage a team that includes Goods Inwards personnel and a Stock Controller, ensuring alignment with company goals.

  • Enhanced analytical skills, with the ability to gather and interpret complex data.
  • Familiarity with sourcing and vendor/supplier management practices.
  • Solid business acumen, particularly within the retail sector.
  • A passion for sustainability and a commitment to driving positive change.
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, with a strong track record of success.
  • Experience in managing a team and leading them to achieve set goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with market dynamics and business operations, particularly in retail.
  • Strong negotiation and networking abilities.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, especially within an MS Excel environment.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making capabilities.
  • A BS degree in supply chain management, logistics, or procurement is preferred.
